The Ski Trip

 My next stop was a motel on a north-south highway near two under-rated Idaho ski areas. I had dinner at a cowboy (cowperson?) bar and restaurant.  As many hunters and fishers as skiers here.   

I had a great day at a little “non-profit” and family-oriented ski area just about 30 minutes up a windy and steep two lane road from Boise.  Welcome to Bogus Basin. Informed sources tell me that: “Bogus Basin got its name in the 1860's.  There were some swindlers that had a hideout in this area and they were manufacturing fake gold and trying to sell it in the community and they were busted  and the area was name Bogus Basin after that,

 So Wikipedia says: Boise was named by  early 19th-century French Canadian trappers for the tree-lined river (French boisé, “wooded”)  that provided relief for travelers crossing the desolate Snake River plain. On my arrival, I had a great hamburger with fries and Brussel Sprouts.  Boise is a fast-growing town and there is a lot of wealth moving in.

 The road from Sun Valley to Boise was cold and white.  And you start to realize the scale.  A 1/4 tank if gas don’t mean much in these parts. Later, I followed part of the old Oregon Trail to where the local Rotary Club occasionally meets. 

 There is so much steep terrain here.  Even the some of  “Greens” are steep. There is a wonderful lodge at the top of the mountain that serves a delicious $6 hot chocolate. 

 This is a basic old motel, but they try hard to make it a nice place. And it is very close to the ski lifts at Sun Valley.
